Beneficial insects are useful in the management of crop pests as part of an integrated pest management programme. As natural enemies of the pests, beneficial insects target the exact pest, in the exact location, often in difficult to reach parts of the plant that cannot be targeted with sprays. Using beneficial insects to control pests and minimise damage to crops is an important aspect of sustainable farming, without affecting soil and water quality and allowing the grower to reduce synthetic chemical inputs. Beneficial insects also leave no residue on the plant or fruit.
